Abstract

New derivatives of five member heterocyclic compounds containing benzothiazole rings are reported. These compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy, 13 C NMR and Mass spectral analysis. This study was designed to show the microbial activity of substituted benzothiazoles. The compounds were screened for antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis in nutrient agar medium, and for antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans in Sabouraud,s dextrose agar medium. The results show that the derivatives containing benzothiazole moiety are more active.
